To shimmy means to move one part of your body very fast! To do this, and not move everything else, takes some practise. We asked SIMONE, ZeoT Zürich's resident shimmy expert, to give us some tips!
HERE ARE 10 TIPS TO HELP YOU IMPROVE YOUR SHIMMIES!
1. Do it.
Practise
2. Regulate your shimmies!
Aim for a regular movement first, rather than just going as sat as you can.
3. Change speed.
Try different speeds with seamless transitions.
4. Try level changes
Try different levels: up in relevé, down in plié.
5. Try a shimmy on just 1 leg!
Practise all your shimmies on one leg.
6. Relax!
Let go of excess tension in your legs. I usually imagine my quads melting and dripping off my knees (ew)….
7. Speed it up!
After you’ve done all that - you get faster from practising speed!
8. Breathe in, breathe out....
Breathe! Seriously, it helps.
9. Confidence counts!
Be bold & patient.
10. Have fun!
